Pastoral Note—Midweek, 15th Anniversary, and First Quarter Finances

Dear Cornerstone Family,

This past Wednesday evening we wrapped up our first midweek series of the fall: Holy Risk: Facing Our Fear by Faith. I’ve been encouraged by the testimonies emerging from this series. From exposing deep-seated fears to intentional faith stretching steps of obedience, clearly the Spirit has been at work. If you’ve missed any of the talks, please check out the Media Library page of our website.

This coming Wednesday we get the opportunity to put our faith into practice! Our hygiene donation drive for GraceWorks is underway. Please see the announcement on the Focus on Church Ministry page to learn how you can participate. Regardless of whether you contribute or not, you’re all invited to join us on Wednesday, October 14 at 6:00 p.m. for a packing party as we put together the hygiene kits. Please don’t let this opportunity pass you by! This is a simple, tangible way for our church family to share Christ’s love by meeting the needs of our community.

Beginning on October 21, our next midweek series, Holy Rest: Facing Our Exhaustion by Faith, will start, and I want you to be there. Overwork and exhaustion are very real problems, and we need ears to hear God’s rest ethic for His people. Learning to rest isn’t a matter of “taking time off.” Rest requires a vibrant faith. We must learn to entrust unfinished work to God’s care, receive his abundant provision, and remember that our identity is not in what we do or produce––but in what Christ has done and already produced. Friends, this subject is timely and central to a healthy, growing Christian life. Do everything you can to join your Cornerstone family for this important series.

Alright, go ahead and get your phones out. Really, grab that phone. Now, block off Sunday, November 22, 2026, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. Great—a rip-roaring good time is in your future, for we are going to celebrate Cornerstone’s 15th Anniversary that evening! Remembrances, storytelling, giveaways, and goodies will mark our time together as we rehearse the Lord’s faithfulness to Cornerstone. Stay tuned for more details!

Finally, as we come to the end of the first quarter of our fiscal year, the finance team has prepared a helpful overview of our financial picture as a congregation. Thank you for giving faithfully to the Lord’s work in and through Cornerstone!

*Unfavorable variance in Facilities Expenses is primarily due to the writing off of $69,899 in costs associated with the contemplated purchase of the Corn House property next door. The amount was expensed to the Future Expansion Planning account which has an annual budget of $60,000. There also remains a favorable variance in Contingency of $33,564 YTD. The refundable earnest money of $50,000 was received and deposited.

Your servant,

Nate Shurden
