Worship Notes and Bulletin for Sunday, August 10, 2014

As we consider what it means to be a glorified people, we look to Christ in His glory and the promise of future glorification through His blood in the life of the world to come. We begin with the Call to Worship from Psalm 86 and the glimpse of the day in which all the nations shall come before Him and worship and glorify the Lord. Psalm 29: Now Unto Jehovah sings of ascribing to the Lord the glory due to His name for He is mighty and He blesses His people with strength and peace. With I Will Glory in My Redeemer, we sing specifically of the redemptive work of Christ and that all we are and have are because of His ransoming blood and His righteousness that He gives to His people.II Corinthians 4 is the New Testament Reading, and it reminds us that the surpassing power belongs to God who disciples us through the “light momentary affliction” of this life even as He daily renews us. The Prayer of Confession, also from the same chapter, acknowledges our blindness to the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ even as we pray for His light to shine out of darkness and restore our sight.

As we sing Let Your Glory Rise, we pray for the future glory and fullness of peace that comes when the glory of the Lord will cover the earth as the waters cover the sea.

The Hymns of Communion both tell of the light of God that shines in our darkness and guides our steps. And Jesus, Shepherd is a prayer that Christ will lead us safely through the perils and storms of life to the eternal rest and glory of His presence.
