Bulletin and Worship Notes for Sunday, July 27, 2014

As we talk about discipline and the aspects of being a disciple—one who walks in the way of discipline—we seek to follow what Scripture says regarding practicing and studying righteousness. We begin with the Call to Worship from Psalm 111 that speaks of studying the works of the Lord and practicing the fear of the Lord as the beginning of wisdom.Holy, Holy, Holy as the opening hymn draws our attention to the set-apart nature of God who is worthy of all praise and honor for his perfection in power, love and purity and is beyond what sinful man, on his own, can endure.

The Old Testament Reading from Proverbs 3 encourages the teaching of the Lord and ends with the fact that the Lord disciplines those he loves. In the Prayer of Confession from Hebrews 12, we confront the fact that we do not walk in the ways of the Lord as we ought or endure the discipline of the Lord as a rue child of God.

Teach Me, O Lord, Thy Holy Way sings of our desire to walk obediently with the Lord. The Hymns of Communion present the desire to walk in the work of the Holy Spirit to enflame us with the passion of obedience and discipled living. Jesus Draw Me Ever Nearer is a prayer for the presence of Christ lead and direct our steps as we journey in Him.
