Worship Notes and Bulletin for Sunday, July 13, 2014

Participating in the Lord’s Supper every week gives us opportunity as a people to be fed by Christ and to anticipate the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. These are our themes this morning as we consider the words of Christ from Luke 22.The service begins with the Call to Worship from Psalm 81 and the promise of the Lord that He will satisfy His people with the finest wheat and fill the mouths of those who walk in His ways. As we sing Crown Him with Many Crowns, we are rejoicing in the lavish love of our Savior who through His body and blood has made peace with God. With My God, My Portion, and My Love, we sing of the glory of God as the fullness of all we need and the object of praise.

The Old Testament Reading from Isaiah 25 speaks of the richness and feasting that the Lord provides for His people as death is swallowed up and tears are dried. As we wait for that day, we confess with the Psalmist from Psalm 81 that we are stubborn and slow to listen; that we bow to strange gods instead of to the Lord who feeds us with the finest of wheat and with honey from the rock.

As we pray through Jesus, Thou Joy of Loving Hearts, we recognize that we are unfilled unless we feed upon the true Bread of Life who is Christ. We continue with this idea through our Hymns of Communion—Bread of Heaven and Come, Ye Disconsolate, which also reminds us that the Feast of Love will wipe away every sorrow of earth in the glory of the Lamb on His throne.

We conclude with Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah as the founder and perfecter of our faith who leads us through His body into the Promised Land of His presence.
