Worship Notes and bulletin for Sunday, June 1, 2014

As we begin this new summer series on Loving the Church, we get the opportunity to explore some wonderfully rich Scriptures passages and hymn lyrics. This morning we are focusing the theme of the service on the way in which Christ loves His Bride.We begin with the Call to Worship from Micah 4 which enjoins us to go up to the house of God that He might teach us and that we might obey.  O For a Thousand Tongues praises God for His work of salvation while Glory Be to God the Father ascribes glory to the “Church’s King.” The Old Testament Reading from Psalm 84 reminds us of the joy that exists alone in the House of the Lord.

The Prayer of Confession from I Corinthians 13 challenges us to consider how it is that we fail to act and walk in love—a mark of what it means to be the Bride of Christ. Psalm 132: Arise, O Lord, sings again of the glory of the Lord in His Church as the house of His abode.

We conclude with The Church’s One Foundation and the reminder that Christ so loves the Church, that “From heaven He came and sought her to be His holy bride; With His own blood He bought her, and for her life He died.”
