Worship Notes and Bulletin for Sunday, May 18, 2014

The beginning of Luke 19 is the familiar story of Zacchaeus with the beautiful themes of the mission of Christ to seek and save the lost as well as the fact that we are known by God—and that makes all the difference.The service begins with the Call to Worship from Psalm 16 where we read that we have no good apart from the Lord for He makes known to us the path of life. We continue by singing Crown Him With Many Crowns—He who is the Lamb who died for us, who as the Lord of life triumphed over the grave, and who bears in His body the scars and wounds of love. With I Will Glory in My Redeemer we sing of the redeeming love of our Savior who ransomed us.

The New Testament Reading from I Timothy 1 speaks of the grace of our Lord and His mercy towards sinners. The Prayer of Confession from Psalm 32 and Galatians 4 reminds us that part of repentance is acknowledging our sin—recognizing and admitting them to ourselves before we can acknowledge them before God.

The Profession of Faith from 1 Peter 1 rejoices in the truth of our living hope of salvation rough Christ alone. With the Communion Hymns Come, Ye Sinners and Bread of Heaven, we sing of the welcome of the Father for sinners and the sustaining grace to feed us and restore us.

Our final hymn, O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus, rejoices in the love of Christ in His care, saving, and preserving of His people.
