Worship Notes and Bulletin for Sunday, April 6, 2014
Our study in Luke continues with the coming of the Kingdom of God in Luke 17. The Call to Worship from Psalm 103 reminds us that our days are like grass but the steadfast love of the Lord is everlasting, and He has established His throne in the heavens for His kingdom rules over all. The opening hymn, Come, Ye that Love the Savior’s Name, puts us before the throne of God and the majesty and glory of the heavenly King. With A Mighty Fortress we remember that His kingdom is forever for He has triumphed over sin, death, and the power of the devil. Let Your Glory Rise prays for the day when the glory of the Lord will cover the whole earth.The Confession of Sin from II Timothy 4 confesses our impatience with the challenges of the Word and our desire to hear teaching that suits our own passions. God reminds us that there is a crown of righteousness awaiting those who love the appearing of the Lord.
The Profession of Faith from John 6 shows us Jesus as the true bread of life sent from the Father as the bread from heaven. The Communion Hymns begin with Rock of Ages and the all sufficiency of Christ in saving His people. With Bread of Heaven we sing of the fullness and completeness that comes from living in Christ.
We conclude with a song of expectation, Come Thou Long-Expected Jesus, as a reminder that Jesus’ first and second comings—His incarnation and His triumphal return—are both about the same thing. Namely, Jesus is delivering His people, setting them free from the bondage of sin, and raising them up into glory.
