Worship Notes and Bulletin for Sunday, March 16, 2014

As we continue in Luke 17, we will concentrate on the life of faith and what it means to humbly serve. We begin with the Call to Worship from Psalm 34 and blessing the Lord in whom our souls boast and in whom the humble are glad. The opening hymn, All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name, extols the Savior as Lord of all as we humbly bow in worship. With Psalm 22: God is My Strong Salvation, we sing of our reliance on God and His sustaining grace. Psalm 32: Blest is the Man we pray for the humility to confess our sins with sorrow and honesty, without guile, for He cancels our sins.The Prayer of Confession from Philippians 2 is a familiar passage that reminds us of the ultimate example of humble service in the person of Christ. By comparison, our selfish ideas and lack of affection and sympathy for others are puny and pale and pitiful. We need the mind of Christ. We continue with Philippians 2 in our Profession of Faith as we rehearse the nature of the Incarnated Christ.

The first Communion Hymn, O God Beyond All Praising prays that the Lord will accept our love and service. With Alas, and Did My Savior Bleed, the humility of Christ is again the theme of our song.

All for Jesus concludes worship as a prayer to be transformed into a humble servant intent on serving Christ is all things.
