Worship Notes for Sunday, March 2, 2014

In the season of Epiphany, we celebrate the gift of Christ to all of the world and the light of the knowledge of Christ bringing hope and redemption.From Psalm 66 & 32, we are called into the Lord’s presence with a shout of joy, being glad in the Lord and rejoicing. We continue by singing Rejoice the Lord is King for the God of truth and love reigns in a Kingdom that cannot fail—and He has triumphed over sin by making us clean. In Come, Ye that Love the Savior’s Name, we sing as those who take joy in beholding the glories of our King even as we desire to joyfully make Him known to the nations around us.

The Prayer of Confession from Psalm 51 is a familiar passage of repentance that highlights the brokenness of our sin against God and the restored joy that we long for through repentance. Psalm 100: All People that on Earth Do Dwell, provides the well-known musical setting of our sermon text for this morning.

The Communion Hymns are both invocations for Christ as the Way, the Truth, and Life to be very present even as we also pray for the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit remove our sin and be our God. The final hymn, Jesus, Thou Joy of Loving Hearts, is a concluding prayer for Christ to satisfy the longings of our souls, to save us, and to spread Hi light over the world.
