Worship Notes and Bulletin for Sunday, February 23, 2014

In the season of Epiphany, we celebrate the gift of Christ to all of the world and the light of the knowledge of Christ bringing hope and redemption.From Psalm 40 and the Call to Worship, we speak of the “glad news of deliverance” that we will not conceal but will share in the great congregation. The text of the hymn Give Thanks to God the Lord echoes the Psalmist in proclaiming the Lord’s wondrous acts and inviting all who seek Him to come glory in His name. With Holy God, We Praise Your Name, we sing of the holiness of the Lord as well as the praise of the prophets and saints that testify to His goodness.

The New Testament Reading from Acts 28 tells the story of Paul using the Law of Moses and the prophets to speak to the reality of Jesus as the Messiah. The Prayer of Confession from Psalm 25 challenges us to seek out the ways and paths of the Lord which He reveals to us.

The second Communion Hymn, My God, My Portion and My Love, speaks of the greatness of God as all of creation sings out its praise to Him. The final hymn, Psalm 9: O Lord Most High, tells of the works of the Lord that we proclaim and of the fact that He will never forsake those who earnestly seek him. Our desire is then to declare His deeds among the nations.
