Worship Notes and Bulletin for Sunday, February 16, 2014
In the season of Epiphany, we celebrate the gift of Christ to all of the world and the light of the knowledge of Christ bringing hope and redemption. We are called into worship by the invitation from Psalm 111 to give praise to the Lord for He is faithful and His righteousness endures forever. With Praise My Soul the King of Heaven, we sing of a Father who tends His children in great love and faithfulness. We continue with Come, Thou Fount and the great grace of our God.
The Old Testament Reading from Genesis 2 establishes the relationship between men and women with the creation Eve. The Prayer of Confession from Jeremiah 3 call us back from our unfaithfulness to be God’s children growing in understanding. In Arise, O Lord we sing of the sweet relationship between the Lord and His chosen people.
Our final hymn, The Church’s One Foundation, speaks of the Church of Christ that He has redeemed as a spotless bride. The response to the Benediction, May You Be Strong, is an antiphonal version of Colossians 1:10-11. Women and men alternate in singing the exhortation to be strong in His power in His service and in giving thanks.
