Worship Notes for Sunday, January 19, 2014

In the season of Epiphany, we celebrate the gift of Christ to all the world of and the light of the knowledge of Christ bringing hope and redemption. Pastor Filson, from Christ Pres, will lead us through John 1 and the hope in Christ as our dwelling place.We begin with the Call to Worship from Psalm 84 and longing expressed towards God to be in His house singing His praise. With Crown Him With Many Crowns we sing of the heavenly courts where Christ reigns as the Lamb who was slain but who triumphed over the grave and whose praise shall continue throughout eternity. We continue with I Will Glory in My Redeemer and the satisfaction found in Christ as the one who ransomed us from sin and death and calls us to live before His face in Glory.

The New Testament Reading is from Romans 8 concerning the patience and hope directed towards the longing for our full redemption and the glory that will be revealed. Through the Prayer of Confession from Ephesians 4 we reflect on our tendency to lose sight of our hope in Christ and to set our hearts on the things of this world. From Titus we are encouraged to renounce our worldly passions by His grace and to wait in hope.

In our final hymn, we sing of our “future great reward” in the person of Christ who is our present joy, our hope, and our heart’s desire. May this truly be our prayer.
