Worship Notes for Sunday, January 12, 2014

In the season of Epiphany, we celebrate the gift of Christ to all the world of and the light of the knowledge of Christ bringing hope and redemption. We will continue our study from Luke 14 on what it means to take up your cross and follow Christ.We begin with the Call to Worship from Psalm 34 and the call to exalt His name and to taste and see that the Lord is good. Our opening hymn is Holy, Holy, Holy as well sing of the greatness and glory of who God is. We continue with There’s a Wideness in God’s Mercy and the joy, welcome, kindness and love of the Father who so gently leads us in His way.

The Prayer of Confession from Philippians 2 confronts us with our sinful and selfish desires that we too often place higher than the call to follow Christ and have the same mind as him. Jesus, Shepherd is a prayer for the leading of Christ through the storms and trials of life.

Our hymns for Communion include the Psalm of the Month for January and All to Jesus, I Surrender.  Our final hymn is Jesus, I My Cross Have Taken with the desire to put off the world and take up the cross of Christ.
