Worship Notes for Sunday, November 24, 2013
Our service this morning focuses on the good gifts that came from the Father’s hand and for which we are thankful. One of those gifts is His decrees shown in the works of creation. So we start by singing To You, O God, We Render Thanks and of the wondrous works that declare His presence. The Call to Worship from Psalm 107 reminds us to give thanks for His steadfast love endures and He satisfies the longing soul with good things. We continue by singing For the Beauty of the Earth and With Grateful Heart. The New Testament Reading from Colossians 3 calls us to be thankful, to teach and admonish one another in thankfulness, and in all we do to give thanks. Much like the children of Israel who complained and grumbled in the wilderness despite the wondrous display of God’s power, protection and leading, we too fall into the sinful trap of not honoring and giving thanks to God. Thus we confess our sins with the words of Romans 1. The following hymn is This is My Father’s World.
Our Communion Hymns include Let All Things Now Living and Christ is Our Cornerstone—the hymn written for the start of Cornerstone two years ago as we became a church on November 20, 2011. God has given us much for which to be thankful!
The service concludes with the Psalm of Thanksgiving for the Month of November—Psalm 9: O Lord Most High. We desire to declare His praise and the knowledge of His mighty deeds among all the nations.
