Worship Notes for Sunday, October 6, 2013

Jesus speaks to us about the need for repentance as we re-enter our study on the Gospel of Luke in chapter 13. The Call to Worship from Psalm 85 reminds us that the Lord forgives our iniquity and covers our sin in such a way that we may rejoice in Him. We sing of this salvation in the opening hymn, Crown Him with Many Crowns for He has lived that death may die. This theme continues in I Will Glory in My Redeemer who has crushed the power of sin and death.The New Testament Reading from John 9 contains a parallel story to Luke 13 asking the question of why things happen to people. The Prayer of Confession from Psalm 32 causes us to stop and examine our own hearts and the sin that we hide from ourselves as well as from God. We continue by singing Blest is the Man, Forever Blest (Psalm 32).

The first Hymn of Communion is the Psalm for October, Psalm 42: As Pants the Deer which is a prayer regarding our longing after God and the comfort that He brings. Come to Jesus is a succinct and beautiful picture of the Christian life from sinner to redeemed in glory with all of the struggle and joys that come along the way. We conclude with Lord, Jesus, Think on Me as a prayer of confession, protection, preserving, and promise.
