Worship Notes for Sunday, December 23, 2012
We consider Christmas Glory on this, the fourth Sunday of Advent. So naturally we’re going to sing a lot about the angels and their role in the Christmas narrative of announcing and pointing towards the glory of Christ. We begin with the fifth verse of Angels from the Realms of Glory and then move into the Call to Worship from Psalm 106—that we may give thanks to His holy name and glory in His praise. We continue by singing Angels We Have Heard on High and All My Heart This Night Rejoices. The Old Testament Reading is from Isaiah 12 concerning the salvation of the Lord and the praises due to Him who has done gloriously. The Prayer of Confession from John 1 confronts our sinful hearts in failing to know and receive the coming of the Lord.
Our Hymns of Communion include For What Did Christ the Babe Appear and See Amid the Winter’s Snow. We conclude by singing Hark the Herald Angels Sing who ascribe “Glory to the newborn King.”
