Worship Notes for Sunday, August 5, 2012
With guest preacher Bing Davis, we turn our attention to Psalm 113 and our God who is high above all nations and whose name is to be praised “from the rising of the sun to its setting.” We do just that in our Call to Worship from Psalm 99 that beautifully and forcefully reminds us that the Lord reigns over the peoples and He is holy! We respond by singing Holy, Holy, Holy and Come Ye that Love the Savior’s Name.The Old Testament Reading from Isaiah 24 and 45 highlights the majesty of the Lord from the west to the east and the ends of the earth. He equips us so that “people may know, from the rising of the sun and from the west” that He is the Lord and there is no other. Our Confession of Sin from Isaiah 59 addresses the issue that our sin has caused separation with our majestic God. We long for light, but we get darkness. We need a Redeemer—whom the Lord promises in Isaiah 59:20, our Assurance of Pardon. We respond by singing Psalm 146, Hallelujah, Praise Jehovah for the Almighty’s sovereign care over his people.
Our Communion Hymns speak to our desire to see and know Jesus clearly as well as our desire to be cleansed and freed from the sins that bind us. We conclude with Psalm 57: Be Thou, O God, Exalted High with a prayer that we may carry His praises to all of the nations round—“so let it be on earth displayed” as it is in heaven.
