Worship Notes for Sunday, June 17, 2012
We’ll be considering the righteousness of God and the refuge that we have in Him from Psalm 11. We begin with the Call to Worship from Psalm 31 reminding us of the refuge we find in the Lord for He has redeemed us. Hallelujah, Praise Jehovah follows as we sing of deliverance from oppression and the righteousness that the Lord maintains. How Firm a Foundation emphasizes the refuge of Jesus, the care and protection that the Lord has for His people, and the promise of care and comfort.The Old Testament Reading from Isaiah 32 speaks of the King that will reign in righteousness and will be like a “hiding place” and “shelter from the storm.” The reading concludes with the words, “And the effect of righteousness will be peace, and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust forever.” The Prayer of Confession comes from Psalm 14 and reminds us that are corrupt and that none of us are righteous. We continue by singing Isaiah 43 and the knowledge that the Lord our God has redeemed us and called us His own.
Our Communion Hymns continue this reflection on God as refuge in times of trials for He is “strong to save from the arms of death, from the deepest grave” (I Will Praise Him Still) and He will shield us in His eternal safeguard and protection (Call Jehovah Your Salvation).
Our final hymn is In You O Lord, I Put My Trust (Psalm 31) in which we sing “O Save me in Your righteousness, nor let me suffer shame” for He has delivered us and our life and times are in His hand.
