Worship Notes for Sunday, April 15, 2012
In this Season of Easter, we will continue to start the service with the first verse of I Know That My Redeemer Lives. This declaration of the truth of the Gospel is apparent in our study today from Luke 5 and the call to sinners. In the Call to Worship from Micah 4, we see the call to come to the mountain and house of God so that He might teach us and that we might walk in His paths. We respond in praise with the hymn Come, Christians Join to Sing.Our Psalm for the rest of April is My Shepherd Will Supply My Need (Psalm 23) that captures not only the call of the Shepherd but the grace He extends towards sinners. The New Testament Reading from John 10 reiterates those points of the Shepherd’s call and his guiding. The Prayer of Confession from Isaiah 42 draws our attention to our blindness and deafness because we do not walk in the ways of the Lord. We sing of the call to sinners in our next hymn, Come Ye Sinners.
Our Communion Hymns emphasize the atoning work of Jesus that grants us access to the mercy seat (Approach My Soul) and the efficacy of the blood of Christ to save sinners (There is a Fountain Filled With Blood).
The final hymn, Jesus, Shepherd of Thy People, is a prayer response for Christ to lead us because we are “weak, and poor, and feeble.” The Benediction Response is a call to follow the sound of the voice of the Shepherd even as we are called to call others to Him.
